This trick will help you make better levels by allowing you to direct the player and communicate more clearly but subtly. Frames are a tool used for many triple AAA games that have hand built levels.
Games like Rise of the Tomb Raider and Uncharted have many hand designed levels that need to communicate all sorts of information to the player. By using frames the level designers can show the players information that is most important to them at the current place in the level.
We take a look at aesthetic frames, frames that convey information, frames that foreshadow and we take a look at a couple of examples from 2D games as well.
